小颜 - 一个苦闷青年的牢骚日记

作为创作自述,总会有一种“空前发明”的自恋情结。看着别人的实验总有一种岔愤的无奈感,恨自己生不逢时。但其实创作也并不是在做科学发明,应该把重点转向跟自身,以及自己周围环境有关的内涵层面的构筑吧?

艺术语言的探索未必具有科学性,但必须具有实验性。试验的目的在于探索更新、更直接的表达语言。艺术家未必在传达真理,所以笃信艺术是危险的,观看艺术旨在可否借由“受较少现实因素影响、具有批判精神、开拓精神、富使命感、具有局外人的眼光”的艺术家活动,来重新审视自己的想法、人生观、世界观。

作品的美与丑并不放在第一位;如果说传统艺术的其中一个目的是要在生活中补充多一些美的元素,那在于现代社会来说,精美的家居设计、精致的生活用品、精彩的电视节目、多样化的音乐和国际化的美食无不从不间歇的为我们的感官带来更新、更炫的感官冲击。但是现代人总会觉得有些空虚,也许科技带来这些福祉的时候更带来了一种物化的感觉。感官被充满了、心灵被挖空了。


人本来是连接着自然的。想象还可以,但我们已经无法体会农业社会的人类是什么样的心境。为什么有“人心不古”这句成语?现代人打一出生就被置于庞大的社会机器中,我多么向往背上背包就能从大唐徒步到天竺的玄奘!现代人咬着的是更多事不关己所谓的“社会责任”,被压得喘不过气的当儿,花钱买享受,反而让自己的心灵被啃噬得更沧桑,悲哉。


也难怪视觉、感官上的美感在现代社会显得微不足道,因为拜科技所赐,感官的美感被无限的放大,无数的复制。表面的东西被夸大后,似乎人能接触到的心灵层面的感动就显得更难、更深、更远了。

何清一语:现代艺术因缺乏标准,成了指认的问题,但在国际化的世界,又何来普世皆准的评断标准呢?国际化打破了文化上的普世标准,这也许成了一个困扰,但它源源不绝的普世符号无不为创作者们提供另一个更平坦的斗技场?(概念取自Friedman - 世界是平的一书)


在这个乱象横生,人心被蛊惑的社会大机器,艺术的功能不再只有审美,赏心悦目而已。继由不断的试验、挑战、玩转,艺术作品更希望带给人的是冲击。有没有人做过不重要,美不美不重要,重要的是我在这一刻觉得非做不可,而我做到了!!(吗?)

旁观现实、挑战体制、反思社会、沟通文化,从不间断着如履薄冰的为世人带来精彩,这就是艺术家(?)

期望能把问号拿掉的那一天



I feel pretentious when interpreting my own practice. But when I look at other people's work, it just gave me a kind of pity feeling, why don't I born before they invent these? So that I can be the first of ever. But since making art is not a process of scientific invention, the concentration should be place on the process of building up the connection between individual and the environment?

Art element might not seems to be scientific, but it must be experimental. The motive of experiment is to deliver new and straight forward expression. Artist might not be preaching the truth all the time, hence devouting art is dangerous. The motive of appreciating art should be trying to introspect our thought, view of life and worldview by looking into artists' activity.

Beauty of a work is not important anymore; If adding beauty into daily life is one of the motive of traditional art, we would not rely on that kinda of supplement anymore as modern world had supplied us fantastic environmental design, multifunctional products, fabulous TV programme, various genre of music and international food culture. But modern people still feel emptiness all the time, maybe materialization derive together with the technology invention. Our sense is filled, but our spirit is empty.

Human are living with nature before this. We can imagine, but it is hard to experience the sense of agricultural age's human. We are born in a massive social machine. I am so envious of Xuan Zang who just backpack and walk from China to India! We are oppressed by so-called society responsibility. Even when we try to relax by spending, our spirituality are being erode and being more and more vicissitudes.

No wonder the beauty of visual and sense had been so negligible nowadays, thanks for the technology, the beauty of senses had been enlarged infinitely, duplicated numerously; once the external had been exaggerated, the internal sense will be far apart from us.

Professor He Qing said that Contemporary Art had become a game of naming because of the lack of common criterion. But will we have a common criterion in a globalized world? It might puzzled when globalization destroyed the common criterion, but it did gave us more and more common elements, symbols and new value, it did gave a flat arena for artists from any corner of the world.


In this chaotic world, the function of art should be more than appreciation. From experimenting, challenging, playing constantly, art should bring impact to people. It is not important whether anyone had done this before, neither if it is beautiful, the most important thing is I was born to make this in this moment, and I made it!!

Challenge the system, observe the realistic world, introspect the society, connecting between culture. Artist are those buddy that make fantastic work even when it is tough constantly.
